Four candidates made a bid to fill the two vacant seats on the council, in the by-elections this week: Emile Dopheide and Joyce Karreman on behalf of existing party Campus Coalitie and Jacqueline Weppelman and Atanasov on behalf of new parties ‘List Weppelman’ and ‘List P-NUT’. Weppelman and Dopheide came out victorious.

The by-elections took place because the council's situation since this autumn was 'far too fragile', as chairman Herbert Wormeester stated. This summer, the staff elections were cancelled due to a shortage of candidates – eight in total, for nine available seats. Council member Ewert Aukes then withdrew in the autumn, because he was unable to combine his council seat with his work.

The new members will join the council with immediate effect, meaning all eighteen seats of the University Council are filled again.
