‘No UT staff or students in Middle East conflict zone’

| Redactie

As far as is known, there are currently no UT students or staff members in the conflict zone in the Middle East, says integral safety manager Erwin Medendorp.

For illustration purposes: a recent Iran protest in the Enschede city centre.

Violence in the region escalated over the past weekend, following attacks by Israel and the United States on the Iranian regime. Airstrikes and explosions have taken place not only in Iran itself, but also in neighbouring countries.

Based on an initial assessment, integral safety manager Erwin Medendorp does not see any UT community members present in the region. Given the size of the area and the unpredictability of the conflict, he intends to carry out a more thorough review of the situation.

For travel advice, UT follows the guidelines issued by the Dutch government. Code red – meaning all non‑essential travel is strongly discouraged for safety reasons – is currently in place for Iran, Israel, Palestine, Lebanon, Iraq, and Bahrain.
