UT rector signs statement against violence in Iran

Tom Veldkamp, Rector Magnificus of the University of Twente, and several other UT scientists have signed an official statement, which condemns the violence against students and academics in Iran.

The statement has been signed by numerous rectors and academics from Dutch universities, after brutal attacks against students protesting at universities across Iran. The proclamation aims to express solidarity with students and academics in Iran and those who have ties to the region.

Among the signatories are UT rector Tom Veldkamp, as well as two other UT academics: Azadeh Akbari (Assistant Professor in Public Administration & Digital Transformation) and Yashar Saghai (Assistant Professor of Philosophy).

This isn’t the first time that UT community publicly expresses distress about the situation in Iran. For example, UT staff and students protested against the Iranian government at the O&O square two weeks ago. The solidarity action was held to support Iranians standing up against their government regime, following the death of Mahsa Amini.
