The position of an Ombuds Officer was introduced at the University of Twente in 2019 as part of the Ombuds pilot project, that aims to create a safer working and learning environment at universities.  Han Warmelink has served as the UT’s first ever ombudsperson. After a successful evaluation of the two-year pilot, he will remain in the post for another four years until October 2025.

The Ombuds Officer is an impartial and independent negotiating partner who is approachable for those who work and study at the University of Twente. The now permanent position complements the current confidential counsellors, complaints committee, student psychologists, study advisors and the student counsellor. All UT employees and students can turn to the Ombuds Officer to report problematic situations related to working or studying at the university.
