SpotlightThere seemed to be hardly any room left on the impressive record of university professor Detlef Lohse (61). However, a fellowship from the notable British Royal Society was recently added. An interview with the professor of Physics of Fluids, about curiosity, the intellectual climate and the future.
SpotlightOp het indrukwekkende palmares van universiteitshoogleraar Detlef Lohse (61) leek nog amper ruimte. Toch kwam daar pasgeleden nog een fellowship bij van de notabele Britse Royal Society bij. Een interview met de hoogleraar vloeistoffysica, over nieuwsgierigheid, het intellectuele klimaat en de toekomst.
De TussenstandUniversiteitshoogleraar Detlef Lohse is wereldwijd erkend expert vloeistofdynamica. Hij won de internationale Batchelorprijs, de Max Planck Medaille, de APS Fluid Dynamics Prize en de Balzanprijs. Nationaal werd hij gelauwerd met de Spinozaprijs en het Simon Stevinmeesterschap. Zijn wetenschappelijke vertrekpunten zijn creativiteit, nieuwsgierigheid en integriteit, maar hij maakt hij zich zorgen over het instortende Verlichtingsideaal.
De TussenstandUniversity professor Detlef Lohse is a globally renowned expert in fluid dynamics. He won the international Batchelor Prize, the Max Planck Medal, the APS Fluid Dynamics Prize and the Balzan Prize. In his own country, he was honoured with the Spinoza Prize and the Simon Stevin Master Prize. His core scientific principles are creativity, curiosity and integrity, but he is concerned about the collapse of the Enlightenment ideal.
