Keuzegids 2027: UT fourth again, two fewer top-rated programmes

| Redactie

UT has once again come fourth in the ranking of the best universities in the Netherlands. That is the conclusion drawn from the Keuzegids Universiteiten 2027 university guide. The number of top-rated degree programmes has fallen from seven to five, with Chemical Science & Engineering achieving the highest score.

This year, the Keuzegids has taken a different approach, dividing universities into three categories: comprehensive, other, and technical universities. As a result, there is no clear overall ranking. Nevertheless, a quick tally of the points reveals a clear picture: the Open University tops the list with 71 points, followed by Wageningen (67.5 points) and Utrecht (63), with UT (62.5) in fourth place. This puts Twente half a point below last year's score.

Five top-rated programmes

What has not changed is that degree programmes scoring 75 points or more receive the 'top-rated programme' distinction. This year, 73 programmes have earned that distinction. Five of them are at UT, down from seven last year. Management, Society & Technology dropped from 81 points to 63.

Twente's highest-scoring programme is Chemical Science & Engineering, with 88 points, placing it seventh overall. This represents an improvement of 13 points compared with last year. Applied Physics comes second among UT programmes, with 80 points and 37th place overall. The programme is thus celebrating its 15th consecutive year as a top-rated programme. Communication Science ranks 54th with 77 points. Advanced Technology and Industrial Engineering & Management both score 76 points.

Joint degree programmes

The regular UT Creative Technology programme drops from 79 to 71 points. The joint programme with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam falls below the pass mark, declining from 60 to 54 points. The picture is reversed for Mechanical Engineering. The Enschede-based programme narrowly achieves a passing score with 55 points, while the joint programme with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam earned 65 points.

Psychology falls further behind

Of UT's twenty degree programmes, Psychology scores the lowest. Its score has fallen from 55 to 50 points, putting it in the red. The programme performs below the national average in almost every area, with the exception of atmosphere.
