Sanosole startup wins at Entrepreneurial Experience

The big winner of the Entrepreneurial Experience 2026, held yesterday in the Waaier, was startup Sanosole. Its smart insoles, designed to detect diabetes-related complications, secured two of the event's four awards.

Oculoo, with its eye-drop glasses, and migraine researchers Hemicron also received prizes. Four awards were up for grabs during the Entrepreneurial Experience, organised by Novel-T, UT's entrepreneurship support organisation for students, and the University of Twente. The event attracted around one hundred attendees to the Waaier.

As part of the programme, presenter Mike Verkouter interviewed UT alumnus Emile Nijssen. He built his startup Homey into a market leader in smart home control hubs before selling the company to LG Electronics.

Student teams then took to the stage to pitch their ideas and business plans in just one minute, competing in the Ideation and Business categories.

Winners

Sanosole won both the 2,500-euro Ideation Award and the 2,500-euro ASML Young Makers Award for its insole technology, which uses AI to detect diabetic ulcers at an early stage and helps prevent amputations.

The 4,000-euro Thales Business Award went to Oculoo. The team developed a pair of glasses that helps older adults administer eye drops independently, giving them greater autonomy.

The Novel-T Impact Award, voted for by the audience, was awarded to Hemicron. The researchers received 2,500 euros to continue their work on measuring and monitoring migraines.

Other ideas presented during the event included social platforms for sharing sports performance data and concepts aimed at improving student housing.

New name

This was the first year the student entrepreneurship event was held under the name Entrepreneurial Experience. In previous years, it was known as the UT Challenge.
