Foodservice organization Albron and Starbucks are terminating the franchise agreement, with the result that the University of Twente will not renew the contract with Starbucks either. As a result, the coffee shop – which settled on campus in 2015 after a long lobby by students – will leave the space in the Zilverling after ten years.
The contract officially expires on November 30, 2025. Yet all expressions related to Starbucks disappear earlier. For example, the logo with the mermaid will no longer be seen on the façade from 10 November. After that date, there will be no more coffees, teas or pastries available. Whether a new coffee bar will replace Starbucks remains uncertain; the UT is still exploring future uses for the location.
Tilburg and Rotterdam
The University of Twente is not the only university where Starbucks is closing its doors. For example, the coffee chain has already left Tilburg University and last summer also from the Rotterdam Campus Woudestein. At the latter, Coffee Company came in return.
