BMS explores law programme together with VU Amsterdam

The BMS faculty is working on a 'pre-preliminary exploration' to start its own bachelor's law programme. This should be done in collaboration with the Vrije Universiteit, according to the latest management report.

Regardless of all the political debates surrounding the 'Internationalisation in Balance Act', the faculty writes that it would benefit from a fourth major bachelor's programme in the alfa/gamma domain: A bachelor's programme that is offered in Dutch and can count on stable interest from potential students.

A bachelor's degree in law would fit that bill. That is why the faculty has started a preliminary exploration to set up such a programme in collaboration with VU Amsterdam. Upon asked, Dean Tanya Bondarouk says that it is a pre-preliminary exploration and that there is no more to report at the moment. 'We are following a careful process step-by-step and are in the process of setting up a market research,' says the dean.

Two UT-VU programmes

Whether the law programme will get off the ground remains to be seen for now. Currently, the UT offers two joint bachelor's programmes together with the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam: Mechanical Engineering and Creative Technology. In the recent past, the UT also explored the launch of joint Advanced Technology and Industrial Engineering & Management programmes, but no go-ahead has yet been given for this. The ITC faculty is also exploring a joint bachelor's programme with VU Amsterdam, focusing on sustainability and climate.
