Van der Chijs will be leaving the UT six months before the end of his second term. He has been chairman of the Executive Board since September 2013.

Van der Chijs will also become chairman of the Rotterdam Port Promotion Council, the international network organisation of the Port of Rotterdam business community.

The UT Supervisory Board will soon start looking for a new president of the University of Twente. Until a candidate is found and installed, Vice-President Mirjam Bult and Rector Tom Veldkamp will take over Van der Chijs' duties from 1 April.
