Debate to kick off University Council Elections

Internationalization, participation and student stress: many hot topics to discuss during the UT Council Debate. On Monday, 28 May at 12.45, the party leaders will engage each other in a debate. The event is organized by U-Today and Studium Generale.

The debate will take place at the O&O-square. The main language of the debate is English, but participants can choose to speak English or Dutch.  

Between 28 May and 1 June all UT students and employees can vote in the university elections. The result will be announced on Friday the 1st of June in Vleugel.

Verkiezingen universiteitsraad eindigen in status quo

Bij de medewerkers gaan acht zetels naar Campus Coalitie en één zetel naar List Weppelman. Bij de studenten gaan zes zetels naar UReka en drie naar DAS. Dat is de uitslag van de universiteitsraadsverkiezingen dit jaar. Opmerkelijk is de lage opkomst onder studenten; 21,77 procent bracht een stem uit.

University Council elections end in status quo

Among the employees, eight seats go to Campus Coalition and one seat to List Weppelman. Among the students, six seats go to UReka and three to DAS. That is the result of the university council elections this year. Remarkable is the low turnout among students; 21.77% voted.

‘Diversiteit belangrijker dan hoeveelheid partijen’

Voor medewerkers zijn er slechts tien kandidaten voor negen zetels, bij de universiteitsraadsverkiezingen aankomende week. Toch valt er wel degelijk wat te kiezen, zeggen lijsttrekkers Herbert Wormeester en Jacqueline Weppelman. ‘Diversiteit in vertegenwoordiging is belangrijker dan het aantal kandidaten of partijen.’

'Diversity more important than number of parties'

For employees, there are only ten candidates for nine seats in the University Council elections next week. Still, there is plenty to choose from, say list leaders Herbert Wormeester and Jacqueline Weppelman. 'Diversity in representation is more important than the number of candidates or parties.'
