Graduation Awards for excellent students

The winners of the Graduation Award were announced at today’s Opening of the Academic Year ceremony. This prize is annually given to five excellent Master’s students, all from the five different UT faculties. Besides the honor of winning, the students received a cheque in the value of €1000.

This year’s Graduation Awards went to the following UT students, who all did exceptionally well during their Master’s studies.


Yoeri Boink

Grade: 10, Cum Laude

Faculty: Electrical Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science (EEMCS / EWI)

Study program: MSc. Applied Mathematics

Thesis’ title: Combined Modelling of Optimal Transport and Segmentation Revealing Vascular Properties


Bram de Rooij 

Grade: 9

Faculty: Behavioural, Management and Social sciences (BMS)

Study program: MSc. Industrial Engineering and Management

Thesis’ title: The effect of different CoCo structures on the funding costs of a financial institution 


Max Klaassen

Grade: 9, Cum Laude

Faculty: Engineering Technology (CTW)

Study program: MSc. Mechanical Engineering

Thesis’ title: Near field atomization in pressure swirl nozzles


Carolyne Danilla 

Grade: 90 (ITC grading system)

Faculty: Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC)

Thesis’ title: Convolutional neural networks for contextual denoising and classification of SAR images


Rick Driessen 

Grade: 9/10, cum laude

Faculty: Science and Technology (TNW)

Study program: MSc. Sustainable Process Technology

Thesis’ title: Development of a multistage fluidized bed for deep H2S removal from natural gas


Award for the best teacher

Not only excellent students were rewarded at the ceremony today. Rector Thom Palstra also handed out the Educational Award for the university’s best lecturer. This year the prize for the best teacher belongs to Pieter Roos.
