UT surveys now exclusively via CrowdTech

One central tool for creating, distributing and analysing surveys: from 1 September, the Dutch provider CrowdTech will be the standard for the entire University of Twente. Other survey software will no longer be supported.

Qualtrics, Evasys, LimeSurvey and Maptionnaire are just a few of the online solutions currently in use at UT for creating questionnaires for research and, for example, course evaluations. According to the announcement on the UT service portal, the decision to opt for CrowdTech aligns with 'the UT’s strategic direction: greater uniformity, collaboration and quality in the way we work.'

For all questionnaires

In practical terms, this means a single solution for the whole university: course evaluations, academic surveys, and staff questionnaires. Students will also be required to use it—both within their programmes and for external purposes, such as polls conducted by student associations. Before the adoption of CrowdTech's solutions, there was no university-wide survey tool.

Data and privacy protection

Improved data and privacy protection is cited as a key reason for the switch. Another advantage, according to UT, is that CrowdTech is a Dutch company, ensuring that all data is stored within the Netherlands. Despite earlier concerns about data security at American companies such as Google and Microsoft, survey tools from these providers will remain available for use.

Students and researchers with ongoing surveys hosted on other platforms are urged to export them before the end of August. According to the current schedule, alternative solutions will be 'phased out' over the course of the coming year, starting this September.
