Possible Numerus fixus for English-language psychology bachelor

| Martin ter Denge

The University of Twente is considering a numerus fixus of 250 students for the English-language track of its newly bilingual Psychology bachelor. The Dutch-language track would remain uncapped but would include a compulsory matching procedure. The University Council still needs to review the proposal.

Since this academic year, the Psychology bachelor has been split into a Dutch and an English track, in response to the proposed Internationalisation in Balance legislation (WIB). A maximum of 450 students per year already applies to the programme as a whole.

For the Dutch-language track, the Executive Board proposes introducing a matching procedure, similar to those already in place for programmes such as Advanced Technology and Biomedical Technology. This matching could involve, for example, an intake interview with a study adviser or the completion of an online questionnaire, although each programme is free to design its own approach.

One potential obstacle is Studielink, the national application system for higher education in the Netherlands. Whether such a track-specific setup is technically feasible within Studielink still needs to be examined.
