Campus tour on sustainability

How do we make the UT more sustainable? With this question, Brechje Maréchal, policy officer for Environment and Sustainability, is touring across the campus this month. Employees and students can come by and share their own ideas for a greener UT.

The first meeting is this Thursday in the Carré building. 'I will put up an A0-format poster and people who drop by can add their ideas for a sustainable campus on this poster,' says Maréchal. 'In addition, they can list their name if they would like to be involved in possible further steps. The more people come along, the better plans we can make.'

Maréchal is writing the sustainability policy for the campus. 'The Netherlands wants to be CO2 neutral and have a circular economy by 2050. That is why we all have to think about how we are going to achieve these goals. With the tour across the university, I want to reach people in a simple way and get input for the sustainability policy on operational management.'

The sessions will be on:

Thursday 21 February (Hal B, Carré);

Wednesday 27 February (Cubicus);

Thursday 7 March (ITC);

Friday 8 March (Horst);

Monday 11 March (Spiegel);

Wednesday 13 March (Ravelijn Atrium) and

Thursday 14 March (Vrijhof). All meetings start at 11:00.

‘Women are a force of change’

It took a near-death experience for Christy Aikhorin to fully realise her passion. After her ‘beautiful crisis’, the UT alumna stopped a successful career as a chemical engineer and project manager and, instead, started focusing on sustainability and gender equality. She is now the Netherlands’ director of ‘Women Engage for a Common Future’ (WECF), an international NGO dedicated to a gender just and healthy planet.

UT keurt nepmail over klimaatnoodtoestand af

Een grote groep medewerkers en studenten ontving woensdagmorgen een mail waarin de UT per direct de ‘klimaatnoodtoestand’ uitroept. Het CvB waarschuwt dat het om een nepmail gaat. Het is nog onduidelijk van wie de mail afkomstig is.

UT rejects fake email about climate emergency

A large group of employees and students received an email Wednesday morning in which the UT immediately declares a 'climate emergency'. The Executive Board warns that the message is fake. It is not yet clear from whom the email originated.

On to a CO2-neutral and waste-free campus

A CO2-neutral and waste-free campus, full CO2 compensation for all business trips and vegetarian work lunches becoming the standard. These plans are part of a new policy for sustainable operational management at the UT, which the Executive Board recently approved.

Een CO2-neutrale en afvalvrije campus, volledige CO2-compensatie voor alle dienstreizen en standaard vegetarische werklunches. Deze plannen zijn een greep uit het nieuwe beleid voor duurzame bedrijfsvoering op de UT, waarmee het college van bestuur onlangs akkoord ging.

‘Metadata over onderzoek moeten openbaar zijn’

Steeds meer informatie over wetenschappelijk onderzoek staat achter slot en grendel. Zestien Europese universiteiten en negentien onderzoeksinstellingen willen dat veranderen, hebben ze in Barcelona afgesproken.
