Fast Forward

Isn’t everybody curious what the future might hold in store for us? Since most of us are not equipped with Marty McFly’s time travelling DeLorean, Studium Generale found another solution. On February 7th, five scientists from different disciplines will let us peek into the year 2040.

The evening will be one of confusion, astonishment and excitement. First imagine all the things that have happened in the past 30 years. The Internet, medicine to live with AIDS and the development of Nano-technology. Then remember that the pace of technological development is ever increasing. It can only leave you overwhelmed with what might happen the coming 30 years.

According to Dr. ir. Fokko Jan Dijksterhuis, ‘visions of the future are mirrors of the now, reflecting hopes and anxieties of our time.’ In his opening speech The history of the future he will connect the bygone with the upcoming.

Other topics that will be discussed are the development of biomolecular nano technology, the philosophy of technology, health technology assessment, database and search engine technology and quantum transport in matter. The speakers Katsonis, Søraker, Vrijhoef-Vleuten, Hiemstra and Brinkman are all part of the Jonge Akademie @ UT.

The event will take place Thursday, February 7th, 19.30-21.30 in Waaier 4.
