Discovering Sumatra

Indonesian Evening is an annual cultural event held by the PPIE. This event aims to celebrate and introduce the uniqueness of Indonesian art and culture through the showcase of arts, dances, music, and food fair. The theme of the event in 2012 is Discovering Sumatra. Last Thursday night cultural diversity and exotic tourism from Sumatra was discovered. The Indonesian students, who are currently studying in Enschede, performed various art performances, such as:

  • Tari Saman (a traditional dance from Aceh, a province in Northern Sumatra).
  • Tari Perang Nias (a traditional dance from Nias, which is a small island near Sumatra).
  • Traditional and modern Indonesian music (performed by “The BandIDs” and “Smashing Mojo”)
  • Fashion show
