The 26-year old H.B., suspect in the TWRC-fire, has also confessed to being responsible for the computer terrorism at Mathematical Sciences.

The department had been dealing with a number of systems problems since the summer. Computers did start, but documents were unavailable. The system crashed regularly, with the consequence that documents were damaged or lost. The suspect also tormented his colleagues by throwing grit in the printer.

For the computer section, of which H.B. was part, it was soon clear that the hacker came from among their own ranks. The confession has produced great relief among Mathematics employees. 'This was no surprise, it had to have been someone from inside the department. But it does mean that we are able to close off this chapter', according to R. Strijbos, head computer section Mathematical Sciences.
