In Barcelona the George Winter Award 2002 for biomaterials has been awarded to UT-professor Jan Feijen. He receives the award, instituted by the European Society for Biomaterials, for his 'outstanding' research. The chairman of the jury, professor William Bonfield of Cambridge University, praised the 'major contribution' Feijen and his team have made to innovations in tissue engineering, biomaterials, and systems for controlled drug delivery, which make it possible to deliver medicines exactly to where they are needed in the body. Feijen is professor of polymer chemistry and biomaterials and scientific director of the UT Institute for Biomedical Technology.
