Studium generale: first impressions

| Redactie

It is commonly known that first impressions last. But how does that work exactly? How do we judge someone and act upon that, even if we are not consciously aware of our opinions ourselves? Prof. Dr. Detlef Fetchenhauer will provide all the details during tomorrow’s Studium Generale.

We have all been in a situation where we say after a first encounter with someone: ‘He seems OK,’ or ‘she is bad news.’ Without being able to back up why. Prof. Dr. Fetchenhauer is a professor of social psychology at the University of Cologne in Germany, and will explain what happens in our minds when we meet someone for the first time. Be surprised about differences in this process between men and women. But the big question is of course whether or not attractive people really leave better first impressions than less good-looking ones.

Visit the Studium Generale and find out. The event is co-organized by study association Dimensie and will take place Tuesday 23rd of April, 19.30-21.00 in Vrijhof/Amphitheater.
