'I dread the amount of travelling'

| Stan Waning

Hundreds of students will get to know the University of Twente during the Kick-In. Who are they, where are they from and do they look forward to it? U-Today lets you get to know a first-year student every day during the introductory period. Today: Femke de Boer (19) from Ede, bachelor student Technical Medicine.

Femke de Boer (19).

Why did you choose Twente?

'Twente seemed the best choice. I did not hesitate. Enschede is a bit small, but it seems like a pleasant city, especially for students.'

Found a place to live yet?

'No, unfortunately not yet. The search for accommodation has been going on for quite a while, but without any result. I'm from Ede and have to go travelling back and forth for the time being. Hopefully there will be more space in a few weeks' time.'

What do you expect from your time as a student?

'I hope for a lot of fun, but other than that I'm not really sure. The Kick-In is a good time to find out. I am impressed by the many sports associations. There is a big chance that I will join one of those associations.'

Will you join a student association?

'Probably, but I don't know which one yet. I hope to find out in the coming days.'

Have you been vaccinated?

'No, unfortunately I can't yet. I have had corona, so I can only get a vaccination in September. I am planning to get one.'

What is your first impression?

'I am impressed with the Kick-In and especially with the large number of stalls at the opening market. Everything looks good on campus.'

What are you going to do in the first few months here anyway?

'The city of Enschede is unknown to me, so I want to see the city centre soon. I'm also curious about the nightlife in the city. I want to find out about that quickly.'

What are you dreading?

'Mainly the frequent travelling, because I don't have a room yet. Hopefully that won't take too long.'
