The European Research Council (ERC) has awarded its Proof of Concept grants, worth €150,000 each, to five scientists from the University of Twente. The funding goes to David Fernandez Rivas, Jeroen Rouwkema, Stefano Stramigioli, Ivo Vellekoop and Wiebe de Vos.
The Young Academy of the UT was one of the signatories of the highly critical letter that went to Minister Van Engelshoven earlier this week. According to board member Jeroen Rouwkema, the minister must allocate some 15 million euros for the 'three months wasted' by young UT scientists.
Developing blood vessels within engineered tissues. That is a simple description of Jeroen Rouwkema’s highly complex research in the field of tissue engineering, a field that aims to one day replace donor organs and animal testing. ‘We are able to 3D print the larger vessels and we are using the natural organizational capacity of cells to create the smaller vascular structures.’
The ERC (European Research Council) has awarded Proof of Concept grants, worth €150,000 each, to UT researchers Detlef Lohse and Jeroen Rouwkema. The scientists will use the funding to explore the commercial or societal potential of their ERC-funded projects.
