What is the meaning of the number 12 in the Jewish religion? What happened to the local Jewish population during the Second World War? What are the Jewish holidays celebrated in September and October? All these questions are answered when Enschede's synagogue opens its doors for an English-spoken tour on Sunday 9 October from 2:15 to 3:30pm.

Visitors get extensive information about the synagogue’s architecture and history and can find out more about the Jewish religion and culture of the past to today. The tour features the exhibition ‘Anne Frank-a history for today,’ and is shown in five historical periods. ‘In the Twente region, the situation was slightly different than, for example, Amsterdam,’ says Esly van Dam of the Synagogue Enschede Foundation.

Prior to the tour or following it, people can also visit the exhibition for free, which is presented in Dutch and English. German texts are available upon request. Costs for the tour are €6 per person or €5.50 for students. Registration is not needed. Solely visiting the exhibition is also possible until 30 October on every Wednesday and Sunday from 11am to 5pm.Costs are €3.50 per person or €3 for students.
