Art + Technology

Composer and theatre maker Dick Raaijmakers recently won the Art+Technology Award 2011. Sponsored by Witteveen+Bos, the annual award celebrates Raaijmaker’s pioneering spirit in music, visual arts, theatre and poetry. A multimedia artist before his time, Raaijmakers released the world’s first popular electronic music in 1957 and since then has created many electronic compositions, phonokinetic objects, ‘graphical methods’ for tractors and bicycles, and works of visual art for musical theatre. Raaijmakers’ winning exhibition is in the Bergkerk Church, Deventer from 10 November to 4 December.
