Student Housing

| Redactie

There was growing international cooperation on the world-wide front this week on the scarce availability and inadequate student housing situation in the Netherlands. Mrs Alma R. Sealine, president of the Association of College and University Housing Officers – International  (ACUHO-I)and director of Housing at Case Western Reserve University (Ohio) addressed Dutch housing and student associations in Hotel Casa400 in Amsterdam on the topic of ‘International Trends and Developments in Student Accommodation.’

Sealine’s speech recognized a change in the housing requirements of students, particularly when it comes to privacy, luxury, sustainability and safety. Increasing these aspects and transforming traditional student housing facilities into 'lifestyle communities' should be an important priority.

Partnerships between universities, housing development officers and governments should finance these changes. ACUHO-I has over 950 member institutions located in 22 countries. Sealine was also in Amsterdam to celebrate the release of the 'Class of 2020: a new future for student housing in the Netherlands' report. The Class of 2020 comprises eight Dutch housing developers and housing associations, who work together to address the problem of continued shortage of student housing in the Netherlands.  For further info visit Network ACUHO-I.
