Around 170 German youngsters will be attending intensive Dutch summer courses organized by the UT’s Language Coordination Point throughout the month of July. Students who follow such a course and finish successfully in August after passing a State Examination in Dutch as a Second Language (academic purposes) meet the requirements for a Dutch-spoken UT Bachelor program. The courses cover a wide range of grammatical topics and extensive vocabulary: around 2500 words. The kick-off of the program takes place on Sunday 3 July.
Bye Bye Strippenkaart
The Dutch national public transport strip card or strippenkaart that is used to travel by bus or tram in the Netherlands will change over to a smart card or OV-chipkaart effective on 1 July. It will no longer be possible to travel by bus in Overijssel using a strippenkaart. The long, paper strip cards will be replaced by the smart card — OV-chipkaart, which can be used also for train travel. The smart card – OV-chipkaart is the only form of ticket accepted on Rotterdam and Amsterdam’s metro. OV-chipkaarts can be purchased separately and topped up at various locations, including the NS train station main service desk. Surf to OV-chipkaartsite for further details.
Lustrum Film Contest
To celebrate the UT’s lustrum, a short film contest is being organized. Upload your mini-film on Youtube or Vimeo and then send the link to[email protected] before 28 October. The best or funniest submission will receive an iPad. The winner will be announced during the university’s Foundation Day (Dies Natalis) on 25 November.
Lustrum Concert
The Orchestra of the East will give an open air concert on Enschede’s Old Market on Friday 15 July at 8:30pm, as part of the UT’s lustrum activities. Beethoven’s ninth symphony will be performed. The concert is a gift to the region and aims to raise money for the joint cancer research program of the UT and the Free University Medical Center’s Cancer Center. The concert can be attended while standing-only; all tickets for seats have already been sold out.
