Indonesians serve taste of Java and Sulawesi

The Indonesian Student Association in Enschede, known to its seventy members as ‘Persatuan Pelajar Indonesia (PPI)’ served 200 people an array of classic dishes at their food bazaar on the Vrijhof lawn last Tuesday 7 June. The successful cultural event was promoted heavily on Facebook in the week’s beforehand and drew more than 200 people who tasted food ranging from the more popular gado-gado and loempias to exotic desserts in the form of fruit drinks made with melons, strawberries and mangos. Two Saxion students from Java who relaxed in the evening sun, Christanty and Alda, laughed and reflected on the guaranteed local appeal: ‘We knew already the Dutch love Indonesian food.’  Aside from the cold temperature of the main dishes, most students ate with pleasure, after waiting for a while in line and listening to an Indonesian band.  For the all-you-can eat option at Є5 a ticket, food bazaar visitors had plenty of food and enough of a variety to experience culinary Bali at its very best.
