The UT is once again in the race to build the fastest concrete canoe and win the German Beton Canoe-Regatta. In 2009, the UT team made their debut and won the first prize for their 51-kilo canoe which they managed to paddle 400 meters in two minutes and 22 seconds, beating 900 other students. This year, the team Beton-Brouwers or Concrete Brewers plan to use a new concrete mix, replacing some of the limestone powder with additional cement and expanded glass beads filled with air. Lighter and more easily molded, this concrete mix will help to reduce the boat’s weight and optimize its shape. The Beton Canoe-Regatta is on June 25 and 24 in Magdeburg.
