Popular online-encyclopedia Wikipedia, which many academics use to hunt for information or to disseminate it as contributors, is struggling with a diminishing amount of entries. According to the Wikimedia Foundation, the joining of new authors and editors has been declining since 2007. Researchers carrying out a WikiWatch project at the University of Frankfurt perceive the sometimes rather aggressive tone in readers’ discussions on information published on the website as the root cause of the problem.
