Finding it difficult to make an important decision? Then drink loads of water! Faculty of Behavioural Sciences’ Mirjam Tuk found that respondents who had been drinking relatively large amounts of water in her designed laboratory experiment were less impulsive and made more financially rewarding decisions than counterparts who hadn’t: ‘When controlling your bladder, you subconsciously also control other behavior more, for example, rational decision-making.’ Marketing expert and Assistant-Professor Tuk developed the idea for her study while drinking lots of coffee during a long lecture.
