To compensate for delays caused in winter months, the Dutch Railways (NS) currently offers people, who hold a ‘voordeeluren’ card or savings card, the possibility to travel cheaply in the evenings after 7pm on weekdays. Simply buy what is called a ‘railrunner ticket’ and travel for just € 2.50 to any destination of your liking in the Netherlands. The special offer lasts until the end of February. Many students with a ‘NS studentenkaart’, namely a student train pass, have not yet received any extra savings advantages. The issue is being addressed by several Dutch student organizations that have recently voiced their concerns and tried to put the issue in the political spotlight.
