All aboard! On the Latin train
L.A. Voz members played host to seventy guests, some who braved the weather conditions and bicycled last Friday night to the association’s annual kick-off party. Once inside the Bastille, people could shed their winter coats to enjoy Latin cocktails, colorful pictures projected on a screen of Latin American countries, and dance to spicy music like the meringue, salsa and bachata. After the party got underway, the traditional ‘hora loca’ or crazy hour, as described by President Vicky Marin, produces a festive atmosphere that ‘explodes’ in the middle of the party. In usual Latin tradition, selected music helps bring the party in full gear and to its ‘highest point’, when people wear carnival hats and masks. Balloons are passed out, flying in the air, to settle on the ground between fast-moving feet. ‘Few parties at the UT are able to bring all the people onto the dance floor.’ said Naveli Arias Lopez, who studies nanotechnology. ‘ Unfortunately, some people didn’t come because of the bad weather, but party organizers transmitted enough energy to make us dance for four hours and the ‘hora loca’ made it possible to experience a really “hot” Latin party.’ The next L.A. Voz event is a movie night, followed by ‘Christmas’ tapas on 16 December at the Vestingbar. More information, go to www.voz.utwente.nl Photo caption/bijschrijft
