Winner of Broodje Cultuur Publieksprijs 1999, De Maatschap ('the partnership') consists of singer and vocal teacher Mariejan van Oort and pianist and composer Jacques Verheijen. Their current program, Mayn fayfele ('My whistle'), is dedicated completely to the great Yiddish composer and popular poet Mordekhay Gebirtig (1877-1942). Like no one else, Gebirtig had the capability to preserve the daily life of the East-European Jews in song, with great love and respect for his subjects. In addition to the well-known songs by Gertig, the program also contains surprising new material in the form of recently discovered poems.
