Winner of the Broodje Cultuur Publieksprijs 2001, (r)CHESTRA performs music from the farthest corners of the world, including Russia, India, Uzbekistan, former Yugoslavia and China. (r)CHESTRA does not strive for a folkloristic or authentic approach, nor does it make exotic music from a distant country. Its music forms an interaction between old and new Dutch listeners. In the process, a new sort of Dutch music is created, based on the principle that the whole should be more than the sum of its parts. (r)CHESTRA created a successful CD which not only caught the attention of the Dutch national radio and TV broadcasting corporation VPRO, but also of Yo Yo Mah, who invited (r)CHESTRA to play at his 'Silk Route Festival'.
