Robert Taniman is also flying home to Surabaya, Indonesia for two weeks. After that the pressure will mount as he spends a month in Tokyo, Japan where he will meet his fiancée's family for the first time.
Maybe you have exotic travel plans like Jijo Kuriakose of India who is vacationing to Thessaloniki (a.k.a. Salonika), Greece for two weeks with his friend, Dimitrious Iakovou. There he will attend a festive Greek wedding - watch out for that ouzo!
Perhaps the UT is exciting enough for you? George Tiba of Romania just arrived at the UT on a Socrates Scholarship to work on a telecommunications project for three months this summer. 'This is my vacation,' he claims.
No set plans yet? You're not alone. Hennie Freriks of The Netherlands will defend his Master's thesis 'Optical network cards' on July 3 and then spend the summer looking for a job in what appears to be a rather dismal job market. As yet he has no vacation plans but wouldn't mind getting away for a weekend to Valkenburg. Igor Radovanovic has no holiday plans yet because of financial concerns. However, if a great deal comes along, he and his wife would love to sneak away to the South of France. He adds, 'The destination isn't very important if you haven't seen much of the world.' Guo Yuanqing's holiday plans are contingent on whether she completes a conference paper in time. If so, she'll go home to China for the first time in 18 months, if not, she'll be toiling away at the UT. Spontaneous and free-spirited, Peter van Dijk will wait until good weather lures him away from the confining cubicles of the WB. Where will he go? 'Anywhere with sun,' replies the Dutchman.
If you have no vacation ideas, try contacting Peter Minang ([email protected]) from the ITC who is currently organizing a trip in Europe (destination yet unknown) which would take place in late July. Details will be available next week.
Enjoy the summer wherever you spend it, and see you again on August 15!
