The refectory will temporarily move to the canteen of the WB-building. This has now been determined in the messy decision-making process concerning the UT's catering facilities. There will be no cooking in this temporary facility, meant to be in service until April next year. The refectory meals will be obtained from the kitchen of care institute "Het Bouwhuys" in Enschede.
In this way the steering group Real Estate wants to solve part of the housing problem of UT-Catering. At the end of April the caterers will have to leave the Bastille to make way for the Student Union. The new-style refectory will, as has been announced, get its definitive place in the renovated Bastille in about a year. The Catering offices will be housed temporarily in the Drienerburght.
Moreover, until yesterday morning all parties involved assumed that a solution had been found for the temporary housing of the guest restaurant and the bistro De Stek. Both eateries were going to move into the Vrijhof. To this end the building would be extended on the boulevardside, with a permanent conservatory the length of the TheatercafÚ and the present 'Kleine Zaal', which would be made a part of the Theatercafé.
All those involved, among which the Student Union, DiSC, cultural umbrella organisation Apollo and UT-Catering, seemed to be able to live with the proposed construction. Better than with the heavily criticised earlier plan, which provided for catering in the Audiozaal, heavily used by cultural societies.
At the last minute the intended solution was unfeasible for UT-Catering, both financially and logistically. To be continued therefore.
In the mean time more work is being done on the altered renovation plans of the Boerderij, where in April 2003 the definitive guest restaurant should open its doors. Because the new refectory is integrated into the Bastille plan, the Boerderij is available in its entirety for the Ó la carte restaurant, catering offices and reception rooms for groups. In addition the Schuur is no longer intended for catering which makes it available for temporary housing of the Vestingbar, which also has to vacate the Bastille at end of April.
