The renovation plans for the Boerderij and the Schuur will be revised radically. The buildings, which were vacated in December to accommodate the successor to the refectory and the guest restaurant, will only get a catering use to a certain extent: the new student restaurant will be housed in the renovated Bastille, the guest restaurant moves to the Boerderij.

Rector Frans van Vught made this announcement last week to the University Council. In doing this he ended two months of mystery surrounding this part of the real estate plan. According to Van Vught the student restaurant has been added to the renovation plans of the Bastille 'at the request of the Student Union'. In April the rebuilding of the Bastille to student bastion will start.

The original plan for redoing the interior of the Boerderij and Schuur will only need 'small adjustments' according to the rector. The change of plans does mean that the planned building of a corridor between Boerderij and Schuur will be shelved for now. The final location of the kitchen and the 'washing up corridor' will not be determined until a later date and depends on the logistical preference of UT-Catering.

The spaces left vacant in the renovated Schuur and Boerderij because only the guest restaurant is housed there, can, according to Van Vught be used as education and reception spaces.
