Are you ready for an experience that leaves you awake and aware, energized and revitalized, cleansed and calm and transforms your inner and outer appearance? Then welcome to the world of Power Yoga.

Unlike traditional forms of yoga which rely on gentle stretching and meditation, Power Yoga emphasizes synchronous breathing with strong flowing choreographed movements, giving a high energy workout which appeals to young and old alike. It sticks to the basic fundamentals of yoga and improvises certain movements to give the best of both worlds. Regular Power Yoga practice bolsters strength, stamina and flexibility; improves the ability to focus; relieves anxiety and tension; helps maintain proper posture; removes toxins through sweat; and, tones the body. It works the body in a way that makes one feel better and heals from within.

Does all this sound too good to be true? Then drop in at the Sports Centrum on Tuesdays at 4.45 pm or Thursdays at 11.45am or 5pm to witness first-hand this wonder sport. There is no need to register immediately. Try out a couple of classes first, and once you are completely convinced that Power Yoga is the way to go, register with the course trainer during the class by paying a registration fee of €10 (for students and employees with a fitness card) or € 20 (for those without a fitness card). This course is for a total duration of 10 weeks with two one-hour sessions per week.

The class combines 30 minutes of Power Yoga with 10 minutes of Pilates and 10 minutes of meditation to give a holistic experience. All this is done under the watchful eye of a professionally trained instructor, Marion Leeuw, who conducts Power Yoga classes elsewhere in Enschede as well. She emphasizes the fact that the level is adjusted according to the flexibility and the endurance power of the individual, thus optimizing the exercises for each participant individually. All this is accompanied by music which changes with every exercise, thus rendering the experience even more enjoyable.

To join the Power Yoga class, just bring along a towel, a bottle of water and an open mind. Everything, including the yoga mats, is provided at no additional cost. The dress code is regular gym clothes which do not restrict movement. It is recommended that the participants remain barefoot during the exercise routines.
