Mysterious ‘utwentepisser’ does it ‘purely for entertainment’

| Kyra Kars

Like several other universities, the UT now has its own ‘pisser’: someone who operates in secret, ‘urinating’ around campus. The anonymous person behind the profile explains the idea. ‘You can do much more interesting things in the Technohal than study.’

Anyone in UT’s little Instagram bubble has probably already come across the account: the utwentepisser. Since late January, videos have been appearing in which the owner ‘urinates’ in various locations around campus, accompanied by quotes from the television series Dexter (2006), named after the serial killer of the same name.

With more than 900 followers, the phenomenon seems to be becoming increasingly well known on campus. The culprit? For now, they remain elusive, operating in the shadows. The utwentepisser agreed to answer a few questions from U-Today, but only anonymously.

Not Real

All footage is fake. None of the actions are real.

Take us through your thought process. Why did you start doing this?

‘There was a gap in the market, and that’s how the utwentepisser came about. It was inspired by the KU Leuven pisser, who started in early December. As far as we know, they were the first. That’s how the utwentepisser was born.’

How many people are behind the account?

Do the university pissers know about each other?

‘Interactions have taken place.’

How do you choose the locations? Do you get requests?

‘It’s a mix of spontaneity and predetermined locations. Some requests are accepted, but nothing too inappropriate or personal. A certain level of integrity has to be maintained.’

pisser'hunter'

Some universities also have 'hunter's, that try to find the university pissers. The UT does not (yet) have a pisserhunter.

What is your goal?

‘The aim of the utwentepisser is not to offend anyone. All the footage is purely for entertainment.’

What is the strangest place where you have filmed one of these videos?

‘You can do much more interesting things in the Technohal than study.’

Has anyone ever seen you in action?

‘No. There would probably be negative consequences if anyone saw the utwentepisser, so we take extra care not to be seen. To quote Dexter: “Don’t get caught!”’
