Tagging along with the campus kiddo's

The physical part of the Kick-In started yesterday on campus. First year students were introduced to the UT by participating in workshops and guided tours. A photo report of the kiddo's on campus.

Super safe but also a bit strange: in marked areas the students waited for the start of their campus tour. 

Rector Thom Palstra has a chat with the freshmen.

During the tour the kiddo's got to see all the highlights of the campus. 

Participants signed up in advance for a sports or culture workshop of their choice. In this way they get acquainted with the Enschede club life. 

In the evening the students could get a bite to eat at the Twentsche Foodhal.

Studenten blijven massaal weg van de campus

Het lukt de UT maar moeilijk om alle studenten weer naar de campus te krijgen, nu de coronamaatregelen eraf zijn. Dat tot frustratie, maar bovenal grote zorg van opleidingsdirecteuren. ‘We zijn uit de lockdown, maar het blijkt moeilijk om de lockdown uit de student te krijgen.’

Willen UT-studenten straks ook een coronapas op de campus?

Omdat de coronabesmettingen hard stijgen, wil het kabinet van studenten kunnen eisen dat ze een coronatoelatingsbewijs laten zien voordat ze de gebouwen van hun universiteit of hogeschool binnengaan. Because of the rising corona numbers, the government wants to be able to require students to show their Covid pass before they enter university buildings. What do UT students think of this? Opinions vary from: ‘In crowded lecture halls, such a policy is not a bad idea’, to ‘2G is too much for me’.

'The students were just happy and positive'

Only an almost demolished tent and piled up barricades remind of the Kick-In. Now that the freshmen are attending their first lectures, Julia Hubbert, chair of the committee, looks back on an exciting introduction. 'The atmosphere on the campus, that is what I remember'.

Kick-In grotendeels fysiek op campus

De Kick-In (25 augustus tot en met 2 september) is dit jaar vrijwel helemaal fysiek. Niet-gevaccineerde studenten moeten zich eerst testen voor sociale, niet-informatieve activiteiten. Ook moet er anderhalve meter afstand in acht worden genomen, zo laat de commissie weten.

Kick-In mainly physical on campus

This year's Kick-In (25 August to 2 September) is almost entirely physical. Non-vaccinated students must first test themselves for social, non-informative activities. A distance of one and a half metres must also be observed, the committee said.
