At the SensUs healthcare competition in Eindhoven, UT’s youngest student team Biosensing Team Twente took home two ‘silver medals’. The team ended up in second place in two categories.

Biosensing Team Twente participated in SensUs this week, an international student competition focused on developing biosensors for real healthcare applications. The specific health issue that the participating teams had to work on was kidney failure. The UT student team developed a wearable biosensor designed to measure creatine levels, which is meant to improve kidney health monitoring.

The UT team fell just short of returning home with the top prizes. They did reach second place in two out of four categories: the ‘Public Inspiration Award’ for best inspiring the audience and the ‘Translation Potential award’, which is meant for teams that are best able to bring their biosensor from a prototype to a product that can be used in society.

Biosensing Team Twente is the youngest out of nine officially recognised UT student teams and has been in existence since 2023. Last year, the team took home a third prize at the SensUs competition
