Online Career Café connects student with alumni

| Michaela Nesvarova

The first UT Online Career Café will be held on the 17th of June. The virtual event allows students in the final phase of their studies to connect with UT alumni all over the world.

On Wednesday evening, 21 UT alumni from all disciplines be sharing their experience during the Online Career Café organized by the Alumni Office and Career services. About 120 students have signed up so far and a few more ‘seats’ are still available. Registered students will have the opportunity to choose two alumni that best match their interests and ask them anything related to job search and their professional experience.

‘The online event is the first of its kind,’ says the main organizer Solange Panayotopoulos. ‘Before the corona crisis, we were aiming to start a mentoring programme for students. With physical events cancelled, we decided to start if off online. The advantage of a digital event is that we could invite alumni from various countries. Under normal circumstances, it would be more difficult for us to include graduates from Boston, for example.’

The Alumni Office hopes to organize similar events on regular basis. ‘If it goes well, we hope to have the Career Café also offline when it’s possible,’ says Panayotopoulos. ‘So far the reactions are positive, and so we could have Career Cafés focused on specific theme, such as a certain field or a country in the future.’
