UTPC: ‘Networking and sharing knowledge’

| Rense Kuipers

‘Come and meet the excellence’. With that slogan the organization of the University of Twente Purchasing Conference (UTPC) wants to bridge the gap between students and companies. The second edition of the purchasing conference is on the 4th of March in The Gallery.

At the conference, there are workshops, lectures, a career fair and interviews with companies. Ivan Vrdoljak (3rd years student International Business Administration), one of the students who organizes the event, explains more about it.

New talent

‘We work together with companies who are looking for new talent with expertise in purchasing, such as IBA and IEM students’, says Vrdoljak. ‘Sixty percent of the turnover of a regular industrial company is spent on supplies. Buying as efficient and responsible as possible is very important, since it’s the start of running such a company.’

Vrdoljak hopes the UTPC will bring present companies like Shell and MAN and students together, regarding the expertise of purchasing. He thinks the University of Twente is the right place for this. ‘This is one of the four European universities where you can specialize in purchasing.’

Present yourself

‘We hope to achieve exchange of knowledge, that people can strengthen their network and that companies are at the right place to recruit talent’, Vrdoljak continues. ‘Personally, I find it important that students see how important this is. At the university you acquire theoretical knowledge. On this conference you have to present yourself, show your identity.’

You can go to the UTPC website to sign up for the conference. The deadline is on Friday the 19th of February.
