For the first time in Enschede: CleanTech Challenge

| Jasmijn Kol

In 2016 the CleanTech challenge will be organized in Enschede for the first time. Michelle ten Pas (student creative technology), one of the organizers of the challenge, wants to shed some light on what this student competition for environmental ideas entails.

What is the CleanTech challenge exactly?

‘The CleanTech challenge is a competition in which teams of 2-6 students will try to create a business plan for a durable and environmental idea. During the challenge, the teams will get assistance from professionals who give workshops about a variety of subjects. These subjects will be of importance in creating the business plan.’

What does the challenge consist of?

‘The event has three rounds in Twente consisting of workshops about the following subjects: intellectual property, feasibility, creating a business plan, networking and pitching. Prior to this, we organize a kick-off day where students can get to know the competition, learn more about entrepreneurship and where they will have the opportunity to create teams.

After the kick-off and the three rounds of workshops, there will be a regional final in March where the teams will present their ideas in front of a jury. The winning team will represent our region in the national final in Delft. The winner of the national competition will represent the Netherlands in the international final in London.’

What kind of students should participate in this competition? Do they need special skills?

‘You don’t need any special skills. The CleanTech Challenge is for everyone who would like to participate in creating a more durable society and who would like to get some experience in entrepreneurship. You can apply individually or in a group. During the kick-off (13th of January), interdisciplinary teams can be formed.’

What can you win?

‘The winner of the regional final can win 500 euros and in the national competition the prize is 3000 euros. If your idea is brilliant and you’re invited to the international final in London, you will be able to win a prize of £10.000.’
