First MOOC begins in October

| Paul de Kuyper

UT's first massive open online course (MOOC) begins on 5 October. As of today, you can roll for this free, six-week course:Ultrasound imaging.

UT professor of biomedical photonic imaging Wiendelt Steenbergen will conduct most of the classes. Using short films, he will teach about both the medical and the technical aspects of ultrasound.

Little previous knowledge

UT is offering its MOOC via the British platform FutureLearn. Today, the site is publishing its announcement of the online course that lasts six weeks. So enrolment is possible starting now.

For the Ultrasound imaging MOOC, not much prior knowledge is required. According to Steenbergen, simply with knowledge of physics and biology at the VWO level, you should do just fine. With this course, the professor hopes to attract not only a broad public, but is also focusing on medical professionals who work with ultrasound and who would like to know more about the engineering and technology behind an ultrasound device.

More UT MOOCs

In addition toUltrasound imaging, UT is working on yet another MOOC at this time. Later in 2015, the course Supply chain from professor Jos van Hillegersberg will go online. The UT intends to launch two more MOOCs in 2016.
