The International Food Festival at the Campus was a big succes. Photo's: Arjan Reef.
Although the weather was a bit gray and rainy, the festival was full of color and life. Every booth was decorated with colors from their country and with their flag. Some of the representatives brought photos of their country to share with those at the festival. The booth representing China had beautiful red lanterns hanging and the Americans had a poster of the Statue of Liberty behind them.
The countries represented came from all over the world, from Mexico to Ghana and Vietnam. Each country prepared a few dishes from their country. From China there were dumplings, Mexico had frijoles and pico de gallo, there were Vietnamese spring rolls and a drink from Guatemala made from pumpkin seeds. Kenya prepared meat, mashed potatoes and peas and a delicious flat bread. For those attending the festival, it was a wonderful opportunity to try food from all over the world right there in one spot.
When speaking with the students who had prepared and served the dishes, they seemed to really enjoy having the chance to share their food with others. The event allowed the participants to describe the food to those trying it; how the food is made, what area it comes from and the popularity within their country. It was an enjoyable experience to taste and learn about the food from some many parts of the world.
The International Food Festival was a great success despite the rain. Many of the booths ran out of food within the first hour and by the end of the event there was not much left at all. It was nice to see so many countries represented as well as people from all over the world there to try the food. There were many smiling faces brought together by good food and a good atmosphere. The event is held every year and many are already looking forward the next festival.
