Remembrance Day

Today is Remembrance Day, or Dodenherdenking, in the Netherlands. This holiday commemorates those who have died in war. Originally for Dutch victims of World War II, it now commemorates victims of other conflicts and peacekeeping missions.

There will be a moment of silence at eight o'clock in the evening throughout the Netherlands. The main ceremony will be held in Amsterdam and broadcast on television. Other ceremonies will be held throughout the Netherlands including Enschede.
