This year again engineering students at Twente University organized a European Study Tour with the motto “Mechanical Masterpieces” in mind. During their tour the 18 participants, including one teacher visited 16 companies in 4 countries; Germany, Poland, Czech Republic and Austria. Among the companies visited were Siemens, Shell, Volkswagen and many more.

W.S.G. Isaac Newton is the study association for Mechanical Engineering at the University of Twente. The tour lasted 2 weeks which included - next to networking with companies - a cultural program to relax from a hard day of work. The goal of these tours is to show to the members of this program what they can expect once they finish their study.

The European Study Tour shows the appliance of Mechanical Engineering put into practice, a unique experience that is one of the best to discover the possibilities for Mechanical Engineering students. It enables enable students to see the potential of their study and the wide variety of jobs they can apply for. Often students will come back to a company they visited for either an internship or a job.

With the beginning of the current study year, boardmembers of the study association started organizing this tour. The preparation included contacting companies all over Europe to ask for a company visit as well as contacting companies for sponsorships and the development of the final route.

The tour was an unforgettable experience for all involved. Most of all, the visit to the brown coal machinery in Germany – measuring 100 meters in hight – was a special moment.
