Sports center reopened

| Redactie

Last week the sports center was reopened after being renovated for several months. The project did encounter its share of setbacks: asbestos was found in the wooden hall. Because of the extra cleaning activities, this hall will be completed four weeks behind schedule.

`We already knew the room contained asbestos. We did not know it was this much. That explains the delay,' explains Wout van der Heijden, who was involved in the project on behalf of the Student Union. `The entire sports center, with the exception of the wooden hall and the swimming pool, has been reopened to the public. Practices started last week. On a small scale, renovation work will still take place here and there.'

The sports center closed its doors mid May, for a thorough renovation. Almost all dressing rooms and halls have been fitted with new ceilings, ventilation systems, tiles, floors and electricity. Van der Heijden: `Apart from the asbestos issue, the project was a success. Last week I took my first look around and the result is good.'

A date for the official opening has not yet been set, but is expected to be in late September or early October.
