Carillon: music and technology
The University of Twente carillon has recently been completely renovated. On Monday the 6th of June there will be a special concert interweaving technology and music. A special composition written for the opening by Jorrit Tamminga will be performed in which a computer electronically edits the sounds of the tones so the listener hears a harmony of electronic and natural tones. This will be the premier of the composition written at the behest of the Foundation for Creative Music (Fonds voor de Scheppende Toonkunst). The use of electronica matches the modern design of the carillon tower and meshes nicely with the technological environment and atmosphere of the campus. The opening concert will take place Monday 6 June at 12.35 directed by Rector Magnificus prof. dr. Henk Zijm. Also on the bill are the following works: * Figments, 1983 (Gary White), by Edwin Berends with ad hoc electronica, * Vierkant, 2005 (Jorrit Tamminga) for carillon and electronica, by Edwin Berends en Marko Sturm, * Improvisation on modal themes for carillon and electronica, by Peter Bremer, * Asteroids, 1991 (Gary White), by Marko Sturm with ad hoc electronica, * Morphosis, 2000, (Jorrit Tamminga) for carillon and electronica, by Peter Bremer, Jorrit Tamminga plays electronica on all peices. Admission free. Cushions, chairs and lunch will be available. More information: www.cultuur.utwente.nl, tel. (053) 489 4400.
